Animate a parabola using Geometer's Sketchpad (GSP)

Do not get confused, this is not GPS but GSP. Again, GSP. A short introduction on GSP is that it is a popular commercial interactive geometry software program for exploring Euclidean geometry, algebra, calculus and other areas of mathematics. It was created by Nicholas Jackiw. GSP includes the traditional Euclidean tools of classical Geometric constructions; that is, if a a figure can be constructed with a compass and straight-edge, it can also be constructed using this program.      So, this is what Puan Azyan taught us in class. I do not want to animate it because I want you people to have a go with it and see the results. Have a try okay! :)

p/s: The instructions for building a parabola is already typed and highlighted on the print screen below.

Getting used to makro in MS Excel

A few days ago we got something new and extraordinary (well, at least in my eyes) knowledge. We learnt how to use makro in MS Excel which was not as hard as I imagined. Puan Azyan told us that when we acquire this capability, we can create many hands-on math activities that will capture the students' attention. Roughly, these were what we learnt from Puan Azyan..

This is the basic stuff if we want to create a class quiz and also the score board. Cool isn't?

And the other one is

For the print screen above, by using the Makro command we can show and hide the assigned numbers. Again, super super cool. Need to brush up my MS Excel rusty knowledge and keep them up to date!

Off I go to other math applications.. (hope so!)

Exploring MS Excel

As a teacher, we need to keep track on students progress. This is made possible by using MS Excel. Briefly, MS Excel is a simple spreadsheet application written and distributed by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Basically, it features calculation, graphing tools, pivot tables and a macro programming called VBA (Visual Basic for Applications; which Puan Azyan will teach us sooon). Thus, with a few clicks and a dash of vicious typing here and there, we can do some basic statistics (actually MS Excel will do all the nasty calculations and drawings). Just within seconds, we will get whatever calculation and graph that we want (as long as everything is typed correctly).

Here are the print screens what we have learnt the other day...

And the command functions that are required for this simple stats calculations are

So here we are. Everything that we need to know and acquire for being a teacher. A more sophisticated and complicated stuff will be taught by Puan Azyan very very soon. =)

The long lost warrior..

Howdy hoo pals,

It has been like ages since I updated this blog.. Been busy with some other non-related mathematical stuff but now I am full of, err, time to update it (owh, I wished!).. Puan Azyan told us that we should, again, SHOULD update our blogs and upload all the stuff that she taught in class which consist of MS Words, MS Power Point, MS Excel, GeoGebra, Geometry Sketch Pad and etc. etc. before mid of May.

Honestly, my blog seems to be in progress since it was born! Well, not that bad though.. Managed to upload two things on every month (except for April, been very very busy with extra curriculum errands).. If this blog followed the Piaget cognitive developmental stages, most probably this site was at the sensory-motor stage; still trying to grasp the meaning of life (sort of)!

Hopefully I managed to finish it on time.. Hihi.. =)
Let all of us hope so..

Cheers!
